WHY DON'T WE ACCEPT INSURANCE PLANS?

Many healthcare providers encounter significant challenges when working with insurance companies, particularly regarding rates, credentialing, billing, communication and audits. While the system has its fair share of shortcomings, here are some key reasons why we limit insurance use:

  • Time-Consuming Credentialing & Billing: The process of becoming credentialed and managing insurance claims is highly complex and takes time away from client care. Some providers hire billing specialists to navigate this system, but that adds another expense to the practice and they encounter similar struggles which still impacts the provider’s practice.

  • Delayed Payments & Incorrect Claim Processing: Insurance companies can take months to process reimbursements, creating financial instability for providers who still need to cover rent, utilities, and payroll. They also will often reverse payments even months after services take place, thereby making the client responsible when they originally did not believe they were.

  • Poor communication: It is extremely difficult speaking with insurance company reps, as providers are transferred to different departments or people only to be told different things, following what they say only to find out it was not the correct process in the first place and needing to start at ground zero.

  • Control over your care versus your provider: Insurance companies make decisions about medical necessity and length of treatment, removing much of the autonomy that providers desire over providing care to their own clients.

  • Low and Fixed Reimbursement Rates: Insurance companies set reimbursement rates that are often too low to sustain a private practice, let alone provide fair wages. Additionally, providers are legally restricted from discussing these rates with peers, making it difficult to advocate for better compensation.

  • We understand that insurance is an important factor in accessing care, and we empathize with those relying on their benefits. While we’re unable to accept most insurance plans, we strive to offer effective and informed care, reasonable rates and provide a limited number of sliding scale fee sessions for those facing financial hardships. We offer discounts to veterans, active service members and first responders. Additionally, we can provide you with a Superbill, as several insurance companies offer reimbursement for out of pocket expenses.
